Natural Wonders of Britain

The Needles, Isle of Wight, England
These three limestone rocks profile cut along the west coast of the Isle of Wight have once belonged to England, but, over time, erosion has separated them from the coast. Best seen from the Needles Old Battery (managed by the National Trust), a Victorian fort built to protect Britain from invasion. On clear days, the contrast between the sparkling rocks, blue waters filled with foam and the infinite sky is spectacular.

Did you know?
None of these rock formations really resembles a needle (needle in English). Their name recalls two other rocks of the group that collapsed into the sea after a storm in 1764.


Malham Cove, North Yorkshire, England
Limestone of Malham Cove is a cliff 80 m high created at the end of the last ice age by water from the melting ice. At the top of the cliff is limestone pavers, formed during the retreat of the glacier, a surprisingly regular training that looks like coarse tiles. From there, the view of Yorkshire is fantastic, and the area is ideal for walking.

Jurassic Coast, Dorset and East Devon, England
Coast Dorset and East Devon Coast, also known as the Jurassic Coast name was the first site to be inscribed as a World Heritage site "natural." This spectacular landscape covers 150 km, from East Devon to Dorset. What makes this coast so special is how the exhibition cliffs offer a "walk through time" almost continuous geological covering Triassic periods, Jurassic and Cretaceous ... a real time capsule holding 185 million years of Earth history. Stroll along the trails at the top of the cliffs to see one of the most spectacular geological formations of England, including Durdle Door, the extraordinary rock arch near Lulworth.

Cheddar Gorge, Somerset, England
The biggest gorges of England were trained in Somerset by water from melting ice there is more than one million years. What remains is a spectacular steep ravine that cuts the country in two. Visit the gorge to walk on the cliffs, climbing and discovering caves that house and strange rock formations and a wonderful underground river.

The oldest British human skeleton, known as Cheddar Man was found in one of the caves.


Seven Sisters Cliffs, East Sussex, England
The white limestone coast of southern England are characteristic panorama and a symbol of the island's history that boasts Britain. And for us, the most spectacular are the Seven Sisters along the Sussex coast (Heritage Coast). To discover the most "classic" view, go to Seaford Head where you have a breathtaking view of the cliffs. Since time immemorial, their classic beauty repelled the invaders and greeted the sailors on long-term return home.

Brimham Rocks, North Yorkshire, England
This grouping perilous balancing rocks fascinates visitors for centuries. Formed by erosion of the 'Millstone Grit' for thousands of years, training has been named according to their shape (supposed). Search The Watchdog (watchdog), The Sphinx, The Turtle (turtle), The Dancing Bear (the dancing bear) and The Camel (camel). The site is managed by the National Trust and is open all year.

Early observers thought that these natural rocks were carved by the Druids.


Giant's Causeway, Antrim, Northern Ireland
The Giant's Causeway (Giant's Causeway) is located at the foot of the basalt cliffs along the coast cut Antrim, Northern Ireland. This fascinating geological formation is now listed as World Heritage by UNESCO, consists of some 40,000 black basalt columns closely packed and out of the sea. These pillars are surprisingly regular, as if they had been shaped by hand the man. Man ... or the giant.

Legend says that the floor was formed by the Irish giant Finn McCool who wanted to cross the Irish Sea to fight his Scottish rival, Benandonner.


Fingal's Cave, Isle of Staffa, Scotland
On the other side of the Irish Sea, in front of the Giant's Causeway, Fingal's Cave is a sea cave on the island of Staffa in the Inner Hebrides, off the west coast of Scotland. It is part of the same ancient lava flow that created the Causeway, and inspires artists and writers for centuries. Walter Scott said she "was beyond description" and the composer Felix Mendelssohn wrote his Hebrides Overture after hearing strange echoes caused by water splashing in the cave. You can visit by boat from Staffa Scotland.

Trotternish Peninsula, Isle of Skye, Scotland
The northernmost of Skye peninsulas is home to spectacular geological formations. Take the coast road to the east to see the peaks of the Quiraing, which seem to come straight out of Lord of the Rings and the Old Man of Storr, a basalt monolith 49 meters high. It is in this spectacular landscape that Charles Edward Stuart, known as Bonnie Prince Charlie hid from government troops after the Battle of Culloden in 1746.

Trotternish is also home Kilt Rock, a steep cliff hexagonal basalt named after the Scottish national dress which she looks like.


Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr, Snowdonia, North Wales
Both mountains are among the most spectacular of a region full of epic and rugged landscapes. Glyder Fach (994 m) is crowned by its famous rock door overhang, a massive block precariously on which climbers love to ask, and Glyder Fawr (1001 m) has a steep rock strewn with rocks covered frosts which like old tombstones.

Tourism in Japan

Japan received 8.0 million tourists in 2013 to 10.4 million foreigners1 visitors, against 6.0 million over 8.4 million visitors 20122. Foreign tourists numbered 4.1 million out of 6, 2 million foreign visitors in 20113, down year due to the 2011 earthquake on the Pacific coast of Tohoku, 6.4 million of 8.6 million visitors 20104, 4.8 million and 6.8 in 20095 6 8.4 million in 2008.6 the following month the 2011 earthquake, the number of foreign tourists dropped by moitié7.

ccording to the Japan Tourism Agency, Chinese tourists spend in 2010 each on average more than 115,000 yen during their stay in Japan, against 70,000 for Taiwanese and 25 000 for américains9.

All foreign visitors must be photographed and be fingerprinted by landing in Japan since November 20, 200710.

Until July 2010, the allocation of individual visas to Chinese tourists was limited to those justifying an annual income of at least 250,000 yuan (about 30,000 euros in 2010) in order to limit the immigration clandestine11 . These measures were relaxed in July 2010: limitation to an annual income of 60,000 yuan (about 7,000 euros in 2010) per year, or possession of a credit card "gold." 11 For the Chinese do not have the income, the vacation must be done in groups via voyages11 agencies.
